Mashable article The “smart” antenna for the fiber optic cable that powers Google Fiber has been in use for a couple of years now.
Now, it’s finally made its way to your home and is getting a lot of attention from the tech press.
According to Mashable, the “smart-antenna” can transmit video, audio and music to your Google Home and any other device that can get the signal, allowing you to enjoy whatever you’re watching on your TV without having to download it.
The antenna is currently only available for the Google Fiber version of the service, but the company is working on a version for other devices as well.
Google Fiber has also confirmed that the “Smart Antenna” is now part of its network, but is yet to release any further details about the device.
The company did confirm that it plans to roll out more fiber optic cables to all homes by the end of the year, and is also working to make it easier for other ISPs to deploy the technology in their networks.
It’s unclear what, if any, additional applications the “Google Fiber Smart Antenna”, if any may have in the near future.
